Walking around Paris

Image
Hi Everyone! This is my second post today, so feel free to go back and read the one about Alexandre Dumas if you missed it. Yesterday we walked around Paris, seeing the sights! We didn't go to the Eiffle tower or look at any paintings in the Louvre yet but we saw so many other beautiful buildings!  My Great Auntie and Uncle have lived here for a while so they know all the secret gems and places worth visiting, plus a lot of the history too! It's great walking around Paris with them.  We saw museums (from the outside, so beautiful!), theaters, parks,  the Champs-Élysées, the Louvre, the Arc de Triomphe, a another arc that lines up with the Arc de Triomphe, an Egyptian Obelisk, a place where they do horse jumping INDOORS and Angleina's chocolate shop! We had hot chocolates and giant macarons (Vanilla and Raspberry), YUM!! Write more soon, -Emily

Alexandre Dumas's house and writing house

Image
Hi everyone, A few days ago we went to the author Alexandre Dumas's house and his mini house which he had build just for writing. It was so pretty! In his house there was cool furniture (not the original furniture though, Dumas sold all that because he needed money) and old dresses that looked like they could have been worn by his wife perhaps. His house looked a lot like a tiny Chateau de Maisons Lafitte! His writing house had a moat (complete with one fish and lots of bugs that walk on water), a statue of a dog and a plaque for every book he wrote (plus some spare ones). In his house there was even a Mongolian (I think) room that was given to him from the King of Mongolia (I think) because he wrote about Mongolia a lot (I think, sorry I can't remember it very well). There was a beautiful path in the grounds with lots of caves and tunnels. It was so cool to visit here! Write more soon, -Emily

Je suis en France!

Hi Everyone!!! After a train ride under the sea(the Eurostar which we took from Kings Cross Station (not platform 9 3/4 unfortunately)), we're in France! I'm super excited to be here! It's the first country I've been in where English isn't the most common language. I've been learning French for almost 4 years now, so I am glad to get a language practice opportunity. It's harder speaking to french people than I thought, but I'ts not impossible thankfully. We managed to (so far) order baguettes, croissants, pain au chocolats, crepes, flan (this flan won the 2025 Best Flan in Paris award) and got our hair cut at a hairdressers. Luckily we have my Great Auntie and Great Uncle living here and they can help us and show us cool places to go. They have been super hospitable and lovely! We're staying in Maisons Laffitte, and it's super beautiful! We also visited a neighboring town called St. Germain which was also gorgeous. There is so many pretty buildi...

London Sights

Image
Hi Everyone! Yesterday we had a walk around London to see some of the iconic sights we hadn't yet visited. We saw Tower Bridge (super cool!) and London Bridge (anticlimactic), The tower of London (more like a castle than a tower to be honest) and we also rode the London Eye! It was SO TALL! We had a great view of Buckingham Palace, St. James park, Westminster, Big Ben and soooo many beautiful buildings! Westminster and Big Ben are the most beautiful monuments I have seen so far, so I loved getting a good view of them. There were about 11 other people in the carriage with us on the Eye, and I don't think you could comfortable add any more but it wasn't too crowded thank goodness. When we got off, we went and saw a really super tall monument (the monument to the Great fire of London). Afterwards we went to a Sherlock Holmes themed pub for lunch. It had great food and the decor was pretty accurate! I love the Sherlock Holmes books. A few days ago we also went to the National...
